About the artist
Rusty Tipton - Artist
As an experienced creative talent in the Dallas market since 1983, I established myself as a competent illustrator and designer for many companies and agencies. More recently I have settled down to retirement and what I love the most, which is creating art. I love painting still-life and landscapes using watercolor and acrylic. I also work some with pen and ink. I am really just now able to immerse myself full-time back into the world of fine art. I have recently started getting into various juried art shows and festivals around the DFW area. I am looking so forward to a colorful future that is filled with great people and fine art.
I discovered a talent and love for art in the third grade, when my art was selected for a statewide traveling show. I graduated from Southwest State University with a degree in commercial art in 1981 and have been working as a graphic designer and freelance illustrator until my recent retirement. I'm now once again pursuing that passion for painting I had as a child.
The inspiration for my paintings comes from photographs I've acquired over the years, that bring back fond memories of growing up in the south. I will use as many as 6 or more different images in one painting.
As an artist, my medium of choice is acrylic and watercolor. I have also worked with pen and ink, and pencil.
I have been commissioned to paint a number of wall murals for both private individuals as well as businesses.
I have also done some portrait work of both people and pets.
My watercolor “Oranges” won first place in “Artscape” 2004
My acrylic “Clowning Around” won Honorable Mention in “Vertue” 2010
